Di Romeo was formed the summer of 2010 by two entrepreneurs from the
shoe business, who believe in applying ethics to a product that is
part of the tradition of Italian design.
The founder-owners are forty-eight year old Paolo Anemone, stylist and
third generation shoemaker and thirty-one year old Federico Bellò,
whose family has made shoes for the last fifty years.
Although they don't aim exclusively at vegans or vegetarians, they are
convinced that more and more consumers are becoming sensitive about
protecting the environment and limiting their consumption of meat.
Approximate calculations demonstrate that producing shoes using
alternative methods and non animal materials lowers the negative
impact on the environment by 90% by reducing the enormous waste
of water used for factory farming of animals destined for the
slaughterhouse, the pollution of water by tanneries and devastating
deforestation.
In Europe there are only about ten firms that follow a similar route.
Very little has been done in Italy regarding experimentation and
production using alternative methods. In fact, Di Romeo is the only
Italian shoe company that has rigorously adopted production methods
that do not use any animal parts.
Di Romeo products are the result of continuous research, innovation
and technology using materials with a very low impact on ecology that
can be used to create designs and collections that satisfy even the
most sophisticated customers' desire for style and quality.
